Tom’s work is influenced by his surroundings, by everyday subjects that go by unnoticed. His subjects are often devoid of life and could be seen as banal and mundane, yet they carry a strong depth of texture and colour, which is intensified by the medium he photographs in. The intention of Tom’s urban landscapes is to bring to the light aspects of our surroundings that are often overlooked or ignored, for this project he has focused on painted sections of buildings that serve a purpose of covering up and hiding something that we are unaware of with the aim to make us more aware of our environment.
